Train with Team Rō for a 2000m local indoor rowing competition!
The 2000m race - a mix between a sprint and a long distance, you have to negotiate your aerobic and anaerobic thresholds to pace through this tricky distance. Notes for 2023 Racers...
Here is your race schedule! :: If you are above 30, you are a 'Master' and if you click your age group you should see your entry (and the other entries in your heat!). This schedule is subject to change, as they get more entries last minute. I will do my best to keep you apprised of any changes.
You need to be there 1.5 hours prior to your race! So most of you need to arrive by 7:30a at the UT Gregory Gym. Arriving too early is much better than arriving too late... you can text or call 512-815-3013 on race day to communicate with Chelsea (she'll be there somewhere) but please do a little planning ahead and don't rely hard on her if the info is on this sheet.
Where to meet: UT Gregory Gym, 2101 Speedway, Austin, TX 78712
You're welcome to park wherever you'd like or Uber. We do not know of any free parking options)
Where to park: Brazos Garage click for directions
What to bring: Water bottle, earbuds (there is no music playing but also there is a lot to hear - so big suggestion on just wearing one earbud if you want to hear the chaos), pre-snack, post-snack, electrolytes, game face
What to wear: What you'd wear to class if the weather was very hot outside! Sometimes the gym is stuffy :) We'd love to see everyone in the new black 'Erg Wranglin' t-shirt/tanktops we have for sale! You get 50% off of this shirt from your race entry - so it's $12.50 for you, available exclusively to racers in the Tarrytown studio on Wednesday thru Friday. We'll also have them with us at the Erg Rodeo event if you haven't gotten yours.
Reminders for the week!
1) Treat this week as normal. Eat your normal foods, maybe an extra nutritious version of them! Eat like you're fueling the machine that will carry you to a solid finish line that makes you so proud. No carb loading necessary - but hydratteeeee!!! Shoot for 100+ ounces of water a day! Limit soda and alcohol. If you work out on Thursday or Friday, be gentle. No need to be sore before a race. But it is good to move and not a bad idea to row. Stretch and foam roll.
2) I will be emailing those who trained in at least one of our training classes on your unique, suggested race plan by end of day on Wednesday! After you get yours, please feel free to email back to discuss any questions you might have!
3) We have a 9th biz anniversary party after the Erg Rodeo at Hold Out Brewing from 11a until 2p. We'd love for you to join us! It starts approx when most of us are wrapping up at Erg Rodeo (how convenient?!). No shower needed (unless you insist) - come as you are and let's celebrate our hard work!

Notes from our final training, in case you missed it:
- When you get to your race machine, check the damper (the dial on the side of the machine). Set it at 3.5 when you get to your race machine (adjust damper # if you know what you'd like to row with).
- Prepare your mind for how you'll start your race and don't pop off of your seat bc you jump too hard on the first stroke!
- Check the units! Most of the machines will be set on 500m splits - which looks like a time/clock instead of your normal watts. Press 'units' on your monitor until you see watts.
- The hard part is over, y'all! Now we show up to race day and do the thing! Let's have some fun!
